You can find the best coffee roasters in Brooklyn here! What makes coffee roasters different from your typical coffee shop, you may ask? Coffee roasters roast their own beans. The process of turning a coffee bean into everyone’s favorite morning beverage is so interesting to me.
When coffee beans are first picked, they are green. They get their characteristic brown color after they are roasted, which is an important step in making coffee. Roasting brings out the different flavors that each bean variety has. The beans are then grinded before being brewed. There are so many ways to brew coffee, but the most common methods are pour over, french press, and cold brew.
And there you have it: a crash course on making coffee! But let’s get to the good stuff… here are the Best Coffee Roasters in Brooklyn.
Best Coffee Roasters in Brooklyn
1. SEY Coffee
SEY Coffee is a Brooklyn-born specialty coffee roaster (and cafe!) that sources and roasts their own beans. I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere when I walked in—it was bright, airy, and full of plants. The natural light would have made it a great place to work, but they have a rule where there are limited laptops on weekdays and no laptops on weekends.
There wasn’t really a wide range of coffee drinks to choose from, but they rotate the beans quite frequently (so you’ll get to try different ones if you come more than once). I got the espresso with milk ($5). I don’t remember the exact variety of the beans that were used, but I know it was a light roast. I typically go for dark roasts, but the lighter roast surprised me with its acidity and fruity notes! The addition of milk made for a great tasting latte.
If you’re a fan of light roasts, SEY coffee is the perfect place for you!

2. Variety Coffee Roasters
I’ve already tried Variety Coffee Roasters when I was in Chelsea, but couldn’t leave them off this list too. They roast their beans every day in Brooklyn with a stand alone roastery located in East Williamsburg. They have 9 locations throughout NYC, so there’s no excuse to not come try the coffee!
I tried their latte ($4.50), which was made with a dark roast coffee. The flavor of dark roast coffee is more full-bodied and deep—in my opinion. You can really taste the difference with Variety’s coffee because of the fresh roasted coffee beans they use.
Variety Coffee Roasters has bags of their coffee that you can purchase and take home. They also sell coffee-making equipment and tea (if that’s more your speed). If you’re just visiting New York, this would be a great gift or souvenir to bring back!

3. Partners Coffee
I always get Partners Coffee mixed up with Parlor Coffee, but they’re two different companies! Partners Coffee places an emphasis on building their supply chain through strong partner relationships, which demonstrates their dedication to high quality coffee.
Their flagship location is in Brooklyn, but they do have a few other stores across NYC. In terms of purchasing bags of Partners Coffee, they are also in Whole Foods Markets and ship nationwide.
The inside of the shop smelled like freshly roasted coffee beans due to the roaster they have in the store, which was pretty cool to see! I wanted an iced coffee that day, so I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk ($7). The coffee was smooth with chocolatey notes, while the vanilla (I heard they make their own syrups) provided the right amount of sweetness .
Honestly, I’m a sucker for good branding and Partners Coffee’s branding alone could have sold me; but based on the drink I had, I would have to say that they have some of the best coffee beans.

4. Devoción
Devoción sources its beans from Colombia and roasts them in Brooklyn! They pride themselves in being able to get the beans from origin to roast in 10 days, which helps preserve the flavor.
I visited their Midtown East store on 53rd and Lexington, but their original location is in Williamsburg. You’re immediately greeted with a lot of foliage when you walk in—a testament to the forests of Colombia, I presume.
I ordered the latte with almond milk ($6.80). I could definitely taste the acidity and freshness of the coffee, but what made this drink a standout was the foam. It made me want to get a milk frother to start making my own coffee at home! You can purchase bags in-store, but they have an online store (there is free shipping over $50!) as well.
That latte was on my mind for days after… I could not stop thinking about how delicious it was.

5. Brooklyn Roasting Company
Brooklyn Roasting Company (BRC) is a homegrown coffee roasting company located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They have a commitment to sustainable packaging and ethical practices; this can be seen through their use of tin steel cans and Fair Trade certified coffees. With sustainability becoming more of a priority for consumers, it’s great to find a roaster that shares the same values!
I tried their Maple Shay—their signature specialty drink that is a maple latte. It has espresso, maple syrup, and steamed milk. It tasted like a diner breakfast: a stack of warm pancakes paired with a side of coffee! The maple added a nice depth to the coffee and brought out its toffee notes.
BRC offers seasonal roasts as well, so be sure to grab some either in-store or online while they’re still available. By the way, you’ll save 10% and get free shipping on every delivery if you join their mailing list!

6. Gotham Roasters
Note: Gotham Roasters is based in Brooklyn (that’s where they do the roasting!), but their storefront cafe is in Flatiron. They source their beans from around the world, offering both single-origin coffees and coffee blends. Their Brooklyn blend ($19), made of South and Central American coffee beans, is one of their most popular roasts. They also have a Red Hook blend; the two blends are available year round.
I chose to get a pour over ($5) and they had a few different options for beans. I don’t remember which one I got, but it was bold with a hint of fruitiness. They switch out their beans frequently, so be sure to grab a bag if you find something you like! I was also in awe of all the baked goods that they had available, which Dank Brooklyn supplied (the banana bread is one of the most insane breads I’ve ever had).
I wouldn’t call myself the biggest coffee lover, but Gotham Roasters has exceptional coffee.

7. Nicoletti Coffee Roasters
Nicoletti Coffee Roasters is an Italian family-run shop that’s been roasting since 1972—that’s more than 50 years! Besides the beans that they roast in-house, they also import coffee from Italy. For those looking for some Italian-style espresso, this is the perfect place for you!
Best sellers include the Nicoletti Coffee Espresso Roast Beans and the Nicoletti “Old School 1972” Espresso Roast. The highlight of the place (besides the coffee) was the customer service. You can really tell that the owner cares about his customers and is knowledgeable about coffee; whether it be the flavors of different beans or best brewing methods, he’ll have the answers.
This spot is a neighborhood favorite, as locals appreciate the great price for some of the best coffee beans. If you’re not local, worry not—Nicoletti’s coffee is also available to purchase on their website, Amazon, or eBay!

8. East One Coffee Roasters
East One Coffee Roasters is a coffee roastery in Carroll Gardens that also functions as a café and full-service restaurant! They have another location in Chelsea, but their home base is in Brooklyn.
The shop itself is spacious with plenty of seating—although it can get pretty packed. It would be a great place to grab a coffee with a friend and catch up. Their food menu is extensive; I didn’t get a chance to try any of it this time, but I’m already regretting not getting a stack of pancakes to go along with my Local Honey Latte ($6). The honey offered a light, floral sweetness that helped cut through the boldness of the coffee.
I would recommend coming to East One Coffee Roasters for not only a solid cup of bean juice, but a filling meal as well!
📍384 Court St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
9. Oslo Coffee Company
Oslo Coffee Company started 20 years ago in 2003 as a small family-run business, but has expanded to 3 locations in NYC! They also sell their coffee wholesale, which is how I found it in a Whole Foods Market.
I grabbed the Thor House Blend ($16), which is described as “bold, lively, and bright”. It is said to have fruity and chocolatey notes; the bag also lists raw sugar as an ingredient. I enjoyed the coffee because of the slight sweetness from the sugar! I don’t mind drinking black coffee, but the sugar helped cut through and complement some of the acidity from the notes of plum.
It was so convenient to find Oslo Coffee at Whole Foods. Next time, I do want to try going to one of their shops to get freshly brewed coffee. I’m no coffee expert, so the way they prepare it might be better than how I did it at home (even though it was still really good).
📍133 Roebling St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
10. Parlor Coffee
Parlor Coffee has an interesting origin story: it was first started in the back of a barbershop! While Parlor Coffee no longer operates a public storefront (they only take appointments now), they’re still hard at work roasting beans for cafés, grocers, restaurants, and their online store!
Black Press Coffee is a NY coffee shop that partners with Parlor Coffee and serves coffee using their beans. I went to their location on the Upper East Side and saw that they offered a variety of different whole bean coffees for purchase. The Wallabout blend ($16) is one of the more popular ones; it has notes of milk chocolate, molasses, and cocoa. I was intrigued by their Colombia Los Angeles blend ($21)—being that I’m from LA—because it’s described to have “stone fruit and honey-toned flavors”.
I’ve never dealt with whole bean coffees before, so I’ll have to come back to grab a bag to try!
